Re: Mother
A box of chocolates from a sweetheart used to be the standard of kitschy gifting for Valentine's Day. You showed up with something at least.
The holiday has really evolved in recent years; feminist zeigiest introduced Galentine's Day. Fair enough.Â
The same flexibility has surrounded Mother's Day, companies assure soon-to-be mothers, adoptive mothers, step-mothers etc that they are all invited to be celebrated. Yet, how does this holiday (and Father's Day?) play out for folks who have a deceased parent...or a toxic one?
Bruce Willis said life is long. On our journeys we often desire to make peace with assorted people in our lives. Isn't it best to focus on the positive? If your parental relationship has been destructive, what about taking the initiative to engage with that aunt or friend who always sends you ecards?
